I experienced the same type of problem when I was brushhogging one day. I found all kinds of junk in the valve the you can unscrrew from the bottom of the fuel tank. After removing that I bled off the pump and it started up. No more problems so far. The sediment ( dead bugs grass) and whatever else was not allowing fuel to the system.
