I recently bought a 62 jd 1010 the guy told me the generator was bad and had been unhooked for sometime, the voltage regulator removed..it had a 12 volt battery on it, and was wired positive ground.. i got a 60 amp 12 volt altenator (delco) and had it fixed as a one wire..the guys at alternator shop told me to reverse battery cables making it negative ground, and then wire altenator up through ampmeter then to battery..my coil it getting really hot not sure if its an old 6v coil or what the deal is..i changed the wires on the coil - to distributor/ + to switch.. and my battery seems to slightly over run with water..but battery is not hot at all..only the coil..would the coil cause this if its bad or wrong? and was this tractor originally 12 or 6 volt? would resistors help?
