Jason, So many questions so little time lol. Lets start with the ammeter: If youre at Negative Ground, the + Supply side needs a hot battery feed, and thats often taken from the post on the starter switch as it has a big cable leading direct to the hot + ungrounded battery post or it could be taken direct from the battery + post itself, I would use 12 Gauge red wire there. The ammeters + post only has one wire there. Ammeters - Load Terminal: It has two wires, one down to the BAT terminal on a 3 or 4 terminal Voltage Regulator (often mounted to Generator) or the BAT terminal if it has a 2 wire cutout relay. (Use 12 Gauge red) The other feeds loads like lights and ignition via a switch, so it wires to the BAT input terminal on the switch and I would use 12 gauge. Switch: It receives its input voltage from wiring its BAT terminal to the ammeters - load terminal (see above). Its IGNITION terminal is what feeds voltage to the + coil when switched to ON. The coils other - terminal wires to the distributor. if youre at Positive Ground, the ammeter leads are reversed from above, i.e. - to battery/starter and + is the load side to BAT on switch and BAT on a Voltage Regulaotr or cutout relay. Also if at Pos ground, the coil leads are opposite from above, i.e. - gets power form switch and + wires to distributor. John T Nordhoff in Indiana, retired electrical engineer

From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
