JD 50 tappet noise

I have just purchased a JD50 gas and the tappets make quite a racket. I have adjusted them to .20(per book), then to .17 (to see if it helped) and they are still noisy. Heard a 50 yesterday and you could hardly hear them. Mine seems to be getting oil and the rocker arm facings seems to be smooth. Any suggestions for me?? Thanks -----Larry
