I know, I've been following the futures market all week and that's what infuriates me about the retail gas prices. Around here retail is anywhere from 2.99 to 3.13 for unleaded (went up again today). I'm pretty sure taxes and transportation costs aren't even close to 80 cents! I haven't been able to find any spot market prices, but (in theory) they should be even lower than the nearby futures price. Earlier in the week with the nearby futures price at over 2.80 for a little while, the over 3.00 retail price seemed realistic, but not today, and what happens today? They raise prices again! Don't mention the "supply" problem either - that should already be built into the nearby futures price.
