Fuel is a world commodity and prices are driven by supply and demand. About every twenty years, the demand begins to exceed the supply and the prices escalates which cause more supply to be developed and then the price drops and eventually the demand exceeds the supply and the cycle starts all over again. The last time this happened was in the early 1980's. China and India are the big drivers right now causing the demand to increases and the supply isn't there so the fuel goes to the highest bidder. If you want it you pay the highest bidders price. Now when you throw in the supply loss to Hurricane Katrina and the loss of refining capacity also due to hurricane damage, it just makes a bad situation worse. Sending money to develop more supply will help, but not overnight. It takes two to three years to develop more supply and bring it to market. It really is just that simple and it isn't any conspiracy by anybody.
