It may be difficult to see from where you are sitting at and also for the folks that responded to your question. One mentioned treating the water in bulk and just drinking it as he has done on ships. That was a fairly good response however, it does not work in all situations. I myself drink treated water everyday when at sea on a ship. And yes, I have more sea time than most of you probably have in the outhouse. Distribution is the key, which can be further broken down. Large container vessels can provide potable water for consumption however, filling containers from that vessel for further distribution presents a myriad of problems. First and foremost is sanitation. Enclosed containers (bottled water) generally removes this problem. Remember bottled water may be provided in containers larger than the 12 ounce size that you may be familiar with. The intended user may not have a sanitary container to carry and/or keep the water for any length of time. For those of you folks that are short minded and insist that bottled water is for the weak and sissy's I might remind you that many, many years ago one could drink from rivers, streams and even lakes. Now most of you probably drink your water from a municipality where the water is treated, or for those lucky few that may have there own well, you may enjoy water straight from the earth. Much of our water that we pump from the coffers with our wells is becoming more and more contaminated with products that we discharge and allow to be thrown into the soil. So it is not a matter of machismo, but a matter of living and taking care of our resources so that we may continue our quality of life. Just my two cents worth, and I can back it up with intelligent logic.

Today's Featured Article - A Lifetime of Farm Machinery - by Joe Michaels. I am a mechanical engineer by profession, specializing in powerplant work. I worked as a machinist and engine erector, with time spent overseas. I have always had a love for machinery, and an appreciation for farming and farm machinery. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo ... [Read Article]
