JD horse drawn corn planters

Does anyone know how I can tell the difference between models of 2 row horse drawn planters? I got a parts manual from JD customer service which lists them, but they all look pretty much the same. I can't find any markings on the unit and don't know if I have a 9, 99, 22, 22A, 212, etc. Pretty sure it's not a 999. Also what is the foot lever selecter for, it shows 3 numbers, 2,3,&4?
