I'm not so sure that is the case. Around here I think some are moving to diesel because they are more efficient. I have a small farm about 20 miles out that I like to go to as much as I can. It was getting pretty expensive driving my F150 for transportation so in the spring I went looking for a diesel VW Golf. They were already moving up in price and hard to come by. I bought an older one with a reasonable body and have been driving it as my daily driver and only driving the truck when I need a truck. My fuel bill has gone from $200-$300 per week down to $50-$70 per week. Not as nice a ride but I know why I'm doing it. Just think, I can buy another tractor every month or two. My son has a F350 with the 6L diesel and gets 24-25 miles/Imp.gallon. I've had a 6.9 diesel F250 at one time as well and from my experience even in city driving they're more efficient. A diesel doesn't drop as bad as a gas engine does in city driving.
