Really didn't see any main bearing problems on the 3208. Rod bearing cavitation erosion was another matter. These engines did not like too things, constant lugging and constant high rpm operation. Keep high idle below 2850 rpm (2600 is even better) and don't lug the engine below 1900-2000 rpm, and it will last a long time. If you want to lug the engine and run high speeds, plan on changing the bearings every 3000 hrs. Have a engineer friend who worked at MF for many years and field tested the Perkins V8 tractors. He wouldn't have one. The 24 speed transmission could be a disaster. If it was built within specified tolerances it worked just fine. If it wasn't, and most were not because the tolerances were very exact, it would eventually fail. Unfortunately, it was a good chance the rebuild was not going to be within tolerances, and the failure would repeat. He didn't really like the V8 either. The inline pump was a significant improvement, but he mentioned other problems which led me to look else where for a higher HP tractor.
