What color should my antique mower be?

I have a Johnston-Harvester No. 9 horse drawn 5' sickle bar mower. I've found out that it was made in the late 1890's (I think!). The company was bought out around 1907 by Massey-Harris. I found some tiny specks of red paint on the axle housing, and some white, or maybe light yellow or tan, on the inside of the wheel under some caked on grease. Can anyone tell me if they know for sure what color my mower should be.
