Marc, On that budget, I'd recomend something along the lines of a Ford 3000 or 4000. I farm about 100 acres(only 25 or 30 in flat, bottom land though, the rest is hills and pasture) with a '65 Ford 3000(gas). It's rated at 39 pto HP. To do the work you mention, that's really all you'll need and should fit within your budget. A Ford 4000 moves up to 48 pto HP, I think. It's quite a bit bigger and might not fit your budget, though it should be in the neiborhood. And it is true that your better off having to much hp than not enough, but like I said, for the things you mention(light tilling, cutting brush and grass, etc.) a 3000 would do fine. Both tractors are reliable and parts are readily available from any New Holland dealer and most scrap yards. I know they are plenty of Deeres out there along the same lines, but I don't have any experience with them. What ever you buy, just be sure there is a local dealer of that color that is reputable and helpful. To me, that's a lot more important than the color of the tractor. Hope this helps and if I can be of any more help, please feel free to e-mail me. Casey
