Early 8N"s can still have a front mount distributor, versus the later 8N"s that had the side mount. Since yours does have the 4 speed transmission, it is definitely an 8N. One quick way to tell an early 8N from a later is the presence of a proofmeter (or tachometer) on the lower right side of the dash. Only the later 8N"s will have the proofmeter. 8N"s were made starting in late 47" through 52"...so by using these clues you should be able to narrow it down. Hope this helps!
