You want an antifreeze with the additive package made for heavy duty diesel engines,it will say so right on the jug. This will be up to preventing liner pitting and system corrosion in a diesel or gas engine. Most cheap antifreeze has only enough additives for a car/gasoline engine for one season. I had a real eye opener some years ago when I bought my first coolant checker kit from Fleetguard. I tested a few of my tractors/combines/cars/trucks and found the test indicating that the coolant additives were very low. I could hardly believe the coolant was in that bad of shape,so I tested a new sample of premix (50% water 50%cheap gas engine antifreeze) and found it reading little better then the samples from my equipment. I thought I must be doing the test wrong with the Fleetguard test kit,so I called the 800 help number on the package. The tec at Fleetguard told me that most cheap car antifreeze has precious little additive in it,and that I needed to buy a heavy duty diesel antifreeze or add the additive consentrate to the cheap stuff I was using. I continued to buy the cheap stuff and bring the additive package up to specs by adding the consentrate additive untill I crunched the numbers and found that I could buy the HD coolant/antifreeze with the correct additive package already in it,cheaper than my witches brew of cheap coolant with thw additives added later. Most every brand including the farm stores and big box stores have the heavy duty coolant if you look or ask for it. A good one I use, that is avalible locally is Farm oil brand HD diesel coolant/antifreeze.

Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
