Wayne, Does it have a battery fitted? If so check to see which voltage. If it has any lights - even an idiot light (oil pressure warning) check the bulb rating. Does it have a starter to check the voltage from it"s number plate (remember a 6 volt starter could be fitted to a 12 volt system). The voltage regulator should have a designation on it. Is it a 6 or 12 volt coil? If a 6 volt, is a ballast resistor fitted? Perhaps an operating manual might throw some light on the subject? The other posts have pointed you in the right direction and all you should need t do now is verify what you actually have. You may even be unlucky enough to have an 8 volt system!! RAB
