T-Bone, don't feel like the Lone Ranger. In 19 years as a cop and DOT inspector I've seen a LOT of stuff allegedly "securely" strapped or chained come flying off cars and trucks. Thos little 1" ratchet straps we all love so much are supposed to have a WWL of 1500lbs according to the tag on the strap. I don't buy it for a second. I figure more like 300 lbs is reasonable. But, the law says if the tag reads 1500lbs, thats what it's good for. I use the straps but I have about 15 of them so I add a couple extra on any load I'm carrying. You guys that think you get hit harder becasue you have a CDL should see what happens when a cop and DOT inspector looses a load. Not only does the Judge pop you, the job goes after you too! So if CDL holders are held to a higher standard I guess it goes double for cops. Such is life. I will now prepare myself for the 2 dozen "bad cop" posts that will follow.
