One evening I had the family in our 23' motor home. We were leaving town for a short trip along with everyone else, it seemed. All three lanes were full and going 65 mph or better. I was in the center lane. To my right was a pickup pulling a fifth wheel trailer. In the back of the pickup were a couple of dogs. Just ahead of me was another pickup with a dog in the back. As we in the center lane slowly passed the truck and fifth wheel, the dog in the back of the truck ahead of me wandered over to have a look at the dogs in the back of the truck in the next lane. I remember thinking to myself, "I wonder if that dog is smart enough to realize we're all moving at a high rate of speed or if he thinks those other dogs are just sitting there waiting for him to come visit." Sure enough the idiot canine jumps from the truck to go over and see his new pals. BOOM! he hits the ground and starts rolling down the white dotted line. Everyone is on the brakes and trying to swerve ever so slightly to try to miss Fido and still not side-swipe the vehicles in the next lane. It turned out OK, the traffic in the right lane was able to stop and the dog survived the tumble. I saw him in the mirror trotting over to the shoulder while the his owner was frantically trying to get his truck pulled over to the right. It was very exciting for a few moments, but no one was hurt.
