dthane, I don't know for sure about a 1963 2000, but I have replaced the lower bearing twice on my 1973 2000. The first time I replaced it, I too destroyed the one that I was trying to put in. So, I've actually installed 2 out of 3 successfully. My only advice is to GENTLY tap in the bearing retainer into the bottom of the steering shaft, put some heavy grease all over the bearing and the end of the shaft to help hold the bearing in place, and SLOWLY push the shaft (and worm gear assembly) into the box so that the bearing centers into the lower bearing race. Timing the sector gears to each other and the one sector gear that the worm gear engages is very difficult. It's a real bear on my tractor. Hopefully, it'll be easier on yours. Tom in TN
