Thank you all for the replys.This afternoon after posting my message,I pulled the distributer and removed the new points.These things have not run for 10 hours since new.I just could not believe the damage I found.The breaker half had built up a mound of metal that it had extracted from the stationary contact.This is generally an indication that the coil polarity was reversed but it has always been properly connected.Rather than purchase a new point set,I dressed up the old ones while on the bench. I was able to get a nice clean true surface. After reinstallation I fired up the engine and it ran so good that I immediately hookedup to a disc and went to a field to work.I really loaded up the old girl so tomorrow will examine the plugs for soot just out of curiosity. Thanks your posts.Ol Chief. 82 degrees here in central Texas Hill country today.
