The oil pressure must be a Jeep thing. I've got a '78 J10 with a 360 AMC and it does essentially the same thing. I run a 20W50 oil in it and get around 40psi on startup and at higher RPMs and then down around 10 at idle RPMs. When i got it I was used to the small block Chevys with their 60psi all the time oil pressure so it had me a bit worried too. I talked to several of the older guys at one of the local Jeep dealers and they all said the same thing, 'If you've got at least 8psi at an idle then that's about the best you can expect'. I've even tried shimming the cold oil relief to raise the pressure, thinking it might be bypassing and nothing matters. I've been driving it hard just like it is for nearly 12 years now and it's still going strong. Hopefully yours will do the same thing.
