Go to the Grotto of The Redemption in West Bend. I'm not a official Catholic but man, was I overwhelmed. The Bridges of Madison County in the town of Winterset (also birthplace of John Wayne) is on 169 south and west a little of Des Moines. Surf Ball Room in Clear Lake (Last concert of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper, the place is pure, appears like they did a concert yesterday. Plus all the places the others said. I'm from Michigan, have been Pheasant Hunting in Greene Co. Iowa for last 24 years, made many friends and lost some of the best. I like it so much the wife and I go there for the heck of it. My daughter was conceived in Jefferson IA. One thing I have not done is go to the State Fair but you can bet I will. Wonderful Place, Wonderful People. Another thing of interest is a memorial to a young girl named Kate Shelly outside of Boone. Quite a story there too.
