We have a 4840... we done a good bit of checking on it before we got it. its a 903 cummins v-8 and these were DOGs in trucks; however from the local cummins licenced repair center they made good tractor engines... the 4840 was a 260hp (engine) tractor and the rears ends are pretty good. from what we were able to find they are really good machines. our 4840 has 5600 hrs nothing done to the engine at all! 2 bearings replaced in drive line and 1 small seal leak on an imput shaft.. however.. THE 3pt hitch controls do tend to stop working.
