Many older operating systems and mother boards do not support expanded memory. Case and point - my old Windows 98 operating system supported less than 128 megs of memory. It would ignore any amount over that. And my old Acer Pentium 75 mother board would only support a whopping 48 megs of memory. My suggestion is to buy a new computer. I got my High School graduated son a new Dell 3 mhrz Pentium 4 with H/T technology, 1 gig of ram, 40 gig hard drive, CDR and DVD drive, flat panel 17" monitor, and the normal accessories for $400 shipped - a pretty beefy setup for college. You can go much lower than that and still have a very nice machine for around $200 if you reuse your monitor, keyboard, and mouse - loaded with Windows XP no less. I posted a link to Dells website - their entry level system now is $299 (Christmas), but that comes with the monitor and such, but will give you an idea of what you are looking at. They run very good specials from time to time, that is how I got mine. Keep an eye on slickdeals.net for great specials. Good luck, Dan
