This is coming from a guy who has a 54 NAA, so I may be biased... Get the NAA. Power steering is a $1000 item, and you are already ahead based on price. The NAA and the 601 share the same engine, so horsepower is not an issue. I would MUCH rather replace the rear tires than a gear in the tranny, and cost would be similar. It is true that the NAA originally came with the vane style hydraulic pump - but so did the 601. Most every NAA I have seen has already been converted to the piston style, it is rare to find one that has not. Parts are about the same, but you will have an easier time finding NAA parts as many are the same as the 8N tractor.
