That canister thing is an early style of cold start aid. Depending on the design you'd stick a can or a capsule of ether into it. Then by actuating a valve it would inject a measured shot of ether into the intake during cranking. Those are not injectors you see on the side of the head. Rather they are inlet and outlet fittings for the fuel injectors. The injectors themselves are located beneath the rocker covers. There's only one injector per cylinder.
