The reason the 200 cubic inch motor had problems with the thrust bearings was because the 6080 had a double clutch and when both the pto and the drive clutch were disengaged that would put double the pressure of a single clutch against the crank, which on the older modles without the updated external thrust bearing, would be enough pressure on those bearings to wear them out quickly. The biggest thing to make sure of on these engines are to make sure the tractor doesn't jump out of any gears when decellerating down hill. Also, make sure the powerdirector doesn't slip, jump out, or have a lot of drag when warmed up in the neutral position. Also, make sure that the motor runs alright. If it starts to die after a little while, then it may be time for an injector rebuild. The 180 is a good tractor and was reliable most of the time. As long as it was maintained well and not abused, it will be a good tractor for you for quite a while. Also, the 301 motors are hard to start at anything below 50 degrees without the M&W rebuild kit with the different shaped rings. Hurst
