Rich--I have two 1655 diesels; one starts unaided at 30 degrees and the other one barely starts unaided at 60 degrees. They both have the factory lower radiator elbow heaters, and both tractors will start at -10 degrees after being plugged in for two hours. The easy starter has one 12 volt battery with big cables and the hard starter has two 6 volt batteries in series (12 volt) with big cables. Both engines are in top shape, so don't know what the difference is between the engines. The preheaters seem to work real good without either.
