Merry Christmas John, At least this will give you a Christmas project to work on. How far from the check valve to the bottom of pipe? My thought is that you should have a foot valve at the bottom of that pipe. It probably is leaking there or somewhere in between up to the check valve. Oh yeah, the pump is probably shot, sorry.
