Hi Andy,

This old gal started life as a two wheel drive "Big 10" in 1978.

Along about 1980 or so, we got a huge blizzard and was snowbound. So, I pulled 'er in the shop, jacked it up and put the suspension, the frame crossmembers and running gear out of a 1975 blazer under it making it a full time 4X4. I had to add the Dodge rear axle blocks to it to make 'er set level.

Dumbest thing I ever did; would have been way easier to have traded it fer a new 4x4.

In '88, I sanded it all down, added air conditioning, the dash and interior out of a 1984 C-10 and repainted the thing after updating the fenders to the newer 84 style too.

1995 was when I jacked 'er up again, overhauled both differentials, changed the transfer case to the aluminum style and added the overdrive transmission. Put in a new Goodwrench 350 with the serpentine setup at that time also.

This is the truck that I used when I was out on the road after I went broke farming. It has close to 600K miles on it now and would still take me anywhere I asked. :>)

Today's Featured Article - Talk of the Town: Winterizing Engines - To Drain or Not to Drain? - by Russ Berry. What is this strange attraction I have to equipment and machinery? How did I get this way? I came from the suburbs and own a small horse farm in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. You can call me a "weekend farmer." The local farmers do. Does it bother me? No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most ... [Read Article]
