Just a guess, based on my '49 Ferguson TE-20: the advance plate in the distributor binds on the drive shaft when hot, remaining in the full advance position. This would cause the hot engine to run fast, as Larry suggested, but without any real power, due to trhottle in idle position. See if there is any burr or other manufacturing defect causing this plate to lock solidly to the shaft once it gets good and hot. Good luck! Tex
