I don't know if this will work on the alternate forums or not -- but, on Red Power Magazine, I disable all the happy faces, etc so that they don't show, they are replaced by the titles of the expressions. That is, a frown gets replaced by the word "angry". Still there, but not as gaudy. I like to read and answer posts without being all "glittery". I also don't care for the posters that pretend they are talking and say Sooooo or Noooow, and use 27 exclamations points to make their case -- childish. End of rant.
