9N questions

I just bought a 9N that didn't run. It had been sitting for years and has a red belly with a blue engine block, many parts were not installed on the block ( oil filter, generator, coil, plug wires, throttle linkage, exc.) plus the generator bracket on top of the head was upside down. This makes me think that the person who parked it must have just installed the engine. I got it running but it smokes baddly (blue), it is just the #2 cylinder (only dirty plug) so I know it souldn't need a complete overhaul, so what is makeing it use oil? Are the valve guides a possiblity and if so how can I check them out? Sorry I made this so long, please-if you can help me post a message or e-mail me at Scout67@juno.com
