Do appreciate the feedback, I know it's one of those things like politics or religion, but what I find is some people among a lot of us that are not, can be really inconsiderate and do things without half a thought as to how it affects someone else. I was a bit annoyed at the fact that I am forced into my home, part of which my mother contaminates with cigarette smoke, which means I am smoked out. She'll never stop and after a few health related incidents in the last 2 years it's the easiest way for me to keep an eye on her, she's had a tough time, being the only kid, it's the right thing to do, looks the the 40 year old who never left home though LOL ! I keep my area smoke free and do not spend a lot of time here when the weather is mild, used to only be weekends when working away for many years, but now since I've been here, it's just those 3 tough months of winter, fortunately the place is large, has a nice shop garage area to work in, but it's a fair amount of work to keep it looking nice, like most places, upkeep does need to be done regularly. It seems since I'm back, all the little things people have done to encroach on our place, are getting exposed and mitigated, my neighbor moved right onto our property, made a lawn etc., he's got a 55 x 200 lot with a home and a garage, all kinds of vehicles, atv's and a business that really is a cover, he fosters kids, he's tryin to put 10lbs of shite in a 5lb. bag and make his problems ours, I've been nice, and allowed him some room, I've lived in some tight quarters too, but also told him the yellow thing with tracks will scrape that lawn off in one pass if he ever tried squatters rights to the propertym, the line was re-established as well. People will try and test you, if you are not around for awhile especially.

Being a person who likes to do a job right, gets involved with the details of things, thinks things out as best can be done, I have a hard time dealing with people who haphazardly do things like burn trash, in a smoldering manner, when they know there are other people in the vicinity. There are toxins to consider and it's just not right in certain places, like here. A clean burning fire is one thing, but being a slob about it is another.

I know how it is in the rural areas, which are not far from here, you can do many things the way you want, no one to bother with it, be it burning garbage or whatever it may be. We can still do most things here, within reason. Get this, I can rifle hunt deer at my place, but go up to the northern end of the catskills, that is part of Albany County have to use a shotgun and some areas there are quite rural, but because it's part of the county the city is in, no rifle allowed. A good friend lives over there and he comes here to hunt often. Along the state road here, there are homes that have been here almost as long as the farms, some newer ones, newer ones are spread out and 90% of the farm land is still intact, but subject to 6-7 massive developments now, up for vote by the town. Years ago we used to get blamed for flies at the dairy bar diner across the street, owned by a long time tradtional dairy farming family, typical complaint from a farm, although the horse manure was never an odor issue, for the most part everyone got along with the dairy farmers, most were friendly to their neighbors, it has not changed that much, it was a farming community for a long long time. We used to sell Ford tractors in the town, one of which is still in service, everyone knew each other, not much different from the rural areas, where I have lived as well.

When I burn, I normally burn paper, cardboard but not plastic refuse, it goes in the recycle bin and it's a monthly fee but so what, it's not going to break the bank, so 1 large can gets picked up every week and the recycled plastics 2 times a month. Pick up here is plenty affordable, other places it may not, my grandparents place on the mountain was where most burned their garbage. Years ago the NYS police burned the trash from the barracks right on the edge of the parking lot, right next to us.

I've discovered the incinerator in the can too, use bottomless 55 gallon drum, with a few holes punched in the bottom, and chocked up for air flow, on granite blocks that don't crumble so fast under the heat. When that air gets sucked in, when the wind is right it roars like a jet engine. There have been occasions where I could not recycle or re-use things, like empty oil containers, so I get a hot fire going in the barrel, toss one in at a time, they are gone in an instant and if you watch the smoke, it's minimal, still crosses a grain to do this, but with a hot fire fed by oxygen and not putting in too much at a time, it's hardly visible, it's when someone lets one smolder and smoke that is so annoying. I don't mind gathering up some wood to make a hot fire, if I have to burn something I normally would not, the barrel set up as described does a great job, but you can't overload it. Was a bit annoyed, better to cuss and discuss then to get angry, that always leads to trouble, I think I'll be checking backyards, see if I can find the person, if not I'll go the official encon, fire dept. state police route and see what I can do, when the outside of the house is smoke out, and my eyes burn, I've had enough, it's been goin on awhile.

Golf balls, I'll keep pickin them up, why not, still want to find the jerk teeing off, there's a golf course in town, but he thinks our acreage is the driving range.

Today's Featured Article - Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point ... [Read Article]
