Spammers put random garbage into their messages to get past spam filters. Just reading these messages is not harmful, as long as you do the following: 1. Do not open any attachment. 2. Set your email client so that it does not load any images. Spammers typically embed "invisible" GIF images in their messages. If you view the message, even in preview mode, the spammer will know that your email address is valid and you'll get spam forever. 3. Set your email client so it does not send return receipts. 4. You're best off not using the Outlook or Outlook Express email clients, as these are the ones commonly targeted by virus writers and spammers.
