My 1962 jim dandy has hand brakes, it was cheaper to do it that way instead of the foot brakes, however, they sold a converter to change the hand brakes to foot brakes. I guess a buck is a buck... I have not converted it, It does take a little getting used to and besides the tractor does not go that fast that not having both hands on the steering wheel is an issue. Also The seperate brakes besides for turning, act (at least on most) as a poor mans limited slip differential. If the right tire is spinning, apply the right brake, it will lock that wheel and the left should now spin, it can help get you out of some situations.
