We did this several times in welding shop with no problems or returns.But you don't just cut and weld in a extra piece of steel.There are rules of thumb to welding on a frame.If you are doing it yourself I can give you more details on dos and don'ts.You also have to have the drive shaft lenghtened but I'm sure you know that.Yell if you want some more information.
