Aaron, It was chosen both by design, operator convience, or preference. Prior to the "letter Series" IHC tractors, some IHC tractors had hand clutches, some had foot clutches, some had hand brakes, and some had foot brakes. After the "Letter Series" tractors were introduced, all IHC tractors, both Farmall tractors and International tractors (covering names International, McCormick, Deering) had foot brakes. All Farmall tractors were equipped with foot clutch, although some aftermarket companies offered hand clutches for Farmalls. Some models of International tractors were standard with hand clutches while some models of International tractors were standard with foot clutches. On the foot clutch International models hand clutches were optional and on the hand clutch Internationals foot clutches were optional if the purchaser so desired. Harold H
