Like everyone else has said you need to have a market. I don't know what you mean by a small garden but with just a few acres or less and the right market you can make money if you have the right crop. Most vegetables are labor intensive. Unless you are really big the wholesale market isn't worth it. A small diverse vegetable farm with a good retail market(s) or resturant trade can be profitable but be prepared to do a lot of hand labor and deal with people. If you just want to be a tractor jockey that isn't the choice for you. A lot of farmers can grow a good crop .... selling it is the problem. E mail me with specific questions but I don't grow a lot of green beans. Can't get people to pick or can't afford those willing to pick but other growers have told me they do ok paying pickers by a piece work method. Phil
