This weekend, Feb. 11 & 12 the Boy Scout troop that Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers sponser will host the annual Klondike Derby for Boy Scouts of this area. A klondike Derby is where the Scouts show off their skills at winter survival and compete troop against troop to win the honor of having the traveling trophy for the next year and hosting the next derby. The trophy is a dog sled. Our troop is hosting the derby for the second time since we started sponsering them 15 years ago. When a troop is hosting they can NOT compete that year. It is cosidered to be a very big thing to host the derby. Our club sponsers a scout troop, a cub scout pack and a girk scout troop. When we were asked to sponser the troop we asked that they help raise Old Glory each day during our annual show. In 2004 the troop went camping and were not available to help raise the flag. That fall was when we became sponsers of the Girl Scout troop. In July 2005 the Boy Scouts got a supprise when The Girl Scouts showed up to help raise the flag.
