Good point. If you do it that way, use a really strong chain with no nicks, and do not use rope or any other kind of stretchy tension link. It ain't funny when it lets go. Something about energy stored, and energy released. I used to work at a place where they would use a straightforward way to test the strength of their slings when picking large (many tons) weldments with an overhead crane. They would make the hitch, everyone would stand back and then they'd make the pick. Most of the time it would work. When it did not, there was clear evidence that it doesn't take all day for a chain to snap, nor for the sling parts to flail about.
