I pulled a 1550 Oliver (with loaded tires) on my 20 foot gooseneck (plus 3 foot beavertail) using my F250 with 351 gas engine before I got my 1 ton F350 dually. It pulled fine but I made sure I had plenty of room to stop. I am in Iowa too and I found out when I licensed my dually that since I pull a gooseneck, any weight trnasferred to the pickup from the hitch, with a gooseneck or fifth wheel trailer, is considered part of the weight of the pickup for licensing purposes. If it is a bumper-pull they don't consider the weight transfer as vehicle weight. So, they recommeneded I license the pickup for 5-ton as the extra $ in fees each year is WAY less than getting caught 1 time for being overweight. I would also never pull a bumper hitch again if I didn't have to, you'll figure that out after you pull a gooseneck, park it, squeeze it into tight places, etc... As far as the fenders, I have had both types, but prefer the wheel being completely under the trailer leaving a flat deck. This is especially handy hauling big hay baels or things that are extra wide (tractors included) that may otherwise have to sit on the raised fenders. It is also hard to put pallets of material (seed corn, etc...) on if the fenders are in the way.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
