The closest I came to a coyote was when I was out trail riding on my new Bultaco 40 years ago.
My friend and I had just crossed a set of RR tracks and rode down into a culvert where we stopped so I could check my bike.
Along came a Coyote walking on the RR tracks intently looking in the other direction.My friend clapped his hands when he was even with us, about 10 feet away. He figuratively jumped out of his skin and took off like a shot!
