Question about wire for a 12V system

Hey,

This question is coming from a newbie, so keep that in mind. I have a case 430 that has a back light. The wiring ends about 8 inches away from the bulb. What size of wire should I add on to it? Seconly, for a standard 12V light, there's the wire that wraps around the back of the light and another one that's kinda like a hard piece of rubber that slides into the top of the light. What is this piece for? Does that sound like the right way to wire it? Thanks. Paul
