Liner are critical and so is the gasket . DO not use a genuine ford gasket if there is any question about the liners not being tight. The ford gasket does not cross the flange of the liner anywhere, buy an aftermarket gasket , it crosses the liner and will hold the liner down tight in the block. If the liner is permited to move up and down that will break the flange off , liner will go to the pan. I can asure you that a liner in the pan is not a pretty sight, crank makes scrap iron out of it. I have fixed a few with that disease . george
