My best friend was in Gulfport over Christmas break with his Church group and his report was the same. In 4 months almost nothing is done. the only thing he saw was a quick sewer line laid on the road side. they worked 1 1/2 miles from the ocean gutting houses which could be saved. the surprising thing was no national chain business or anything has been touched. No Mcdonalds, Wendy's not even the almighty Sprawlmart(which is so generous) has been touched. It all looks almost like it just happened. He said anything that has been done so far has been done by Church and charity groups. There is no one to do it. No dozers or loaders or trucks(all flooded) or regular trash pickup. No burning, so when they cleared away trees they had mountains of brush. All the contractors went to New Orleans because thats where the media is. My friend said what is needed is not $ or more rummage, but thousands of people to start at one end and move through the town and pickup the debris. Unfortunately other than the Military, I don't think the gov't has an army of cleanup people. Personally I question the point of the cleanup if no one is coming back.
