I'm not familiar with the Continental you have, however, it is typical for the distributor to drive the oil pump.

If your engine is set up that way, perhaps the oil pump is damaged, there is foreign material in it, or the shaft is bent, putting a load or stress on the distributor.

Is the oil pressure within reason, in other words is the oil pressure regulating valve working properly?

Also, look at the distributor drive gear on the camshaft.
