30 mi. SE of Portland at 1,200 ft. we got 7" before it warmed above freezing. Still snowing, but with the warmer air it's coming off the trees now. In '84 we tried to drive to Reno during Spring Break. The valley was OK, but all the passes were "closed" -- officially, anyway. The only legal way out of the valley was down the Columbia to the coast & the Hwy. Dept. had already taken all the plows off their rigs. We chained up a VW rabbit & made over Willamette Pass.
