I used to have problems with all my carburated engines when they sat a while. Gas gets gummy and it doesn't run well. I've put in a shut-off valve in all of them, run them out of gas before they sit for a while. Pretty much cured my carb problems since I usually put in some fresh gas when I start it next time. You can get a shut off for a few bucks, saves a lot of aggrevation.
