I'd say myself that you sound a tad out of date about how ag parts systems work today. I've had a first hand look at how NewHolland's system works, and I can say with certainty that the errors that exist in that system also exist in the books. The only thing that changed there was the viewing medium.
I'd be curious to know how you would have handled me last fall when I was looking for a set of FWD clutches for a tractor. The puter and the old books both called for a certain number of plates in the clutch pack I had, which was short by 6 pieces from what was actually fitted. I'm wondering what the hell I've got, don't want to spend another few hundred on the grand + I've already spent, none of us want to pay restocking to NH on incorrect parts.... and you're going to make an all knowing guess rather than pick up the bloody phone and call someone?? I'll commend the guy that admitted what he didn't know, and make the call. In my case I posted a question on the Ford page, and my parts man went through NH technical, and we came up with an answer. Hopefully, NH will correct the parts system, now that the error was pointed out. I know if you special ordered a bunch of parts for me that were wrong, and it wasn't my fault, you wouldn't be getting a cent from me to restock them or freight them.
The significant point to his post was that the simple volume of makes, models, and variations on models makes it impossible to know all the answers on equipment today... if you ever could.

The good guys are the ones who admit what they know, aren't afraid to research and hustle a bit to learn what they don't know, and generally go the extra mile for a customer. I'm not going to give a guy a hard time if he's working for me, but I won't be too happy if he's just plain lazy or uninterested in looking up something I need that he doesn't know about. As far as I'm concerned, the quality of the parts person doesn't depend on age very much... or what's between their legs either. It's about attitude, and I wouldn't be surprised if o.f.f went a long way as a parts man.
