Well in the hotel cow biz they charge about 1.30 to 1.50 a day. Generally (where I am) that is for a maintence program for dry dairy aminals grazing. If I caculated for my feeders, it be about .55 for grain and minerals, about .75 for dry matter if I wasn't grazing, and for labor .40 ($12hr/60x2). Toss in a nickel (.05) for buildings, water, fence, supplies and such. For a total of 1.75 day. If grazing I drop the dry matter to .50 and charge 1.50. I would also want a minimun of 20 head for six months. That would not include any wellness program or vet visits. That is also figured on my feeding plan, I am sure your is different. However, you are feeding yours, so you will be there anyway. Two aminals are not going to add really anything to your labors. You have the barn for yours, no added cost for space, etc. I sure wouldn't try the split feed approach. They'll figure out the less you feed them the less it cost them and want to skimp or think your gouging them on cost.
